Seven Songs
Recently found out i got tagged by Ekstasis for this 7 songs meme thingy. Was going to leave it because I’m not usually into internet disclosure (mine that is, loving reading other peoples, though :-)). Due to various personal and professional reasons I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night, so one of the 64 trillion that past through my mind during the course of the evening was this list.
“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”
I get bored real quick. If I had done this yesterday it would’ve been different, if it was tomorrow it would’ve been different, but it’s a snapshot, it’s today, so here goes:
1. Sister Midnight - Iggy Pop.
Mr Cubitts recent posting of the Iggy Pop YouTube clip reminded me of an interview I saw with him from about the same period. I saw it when I was up late one night at about the age of 15 or 16. Next day I went out a found a copy of The Idiot with that pose on the front cover. I remember placing the needle on the vinyl and the pops and the cracks and then it started. And then sitting there and being astounded that people actually made music like that.
2. You Think I Ain’t Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire. - The Desert Sessions
Working late last night, nipped out for a pizza. Chap behind the till, considerably younger, trendier and better looking than myself (difficult to believe but true) noticed I picked up a flyer for an open mic evening at said establishment, and he goes “yeah, ya gonna do some MCing are ya? HURR!!”. In the ensuing conversation, it dawned on me that this boy will never, never understand what it is to lick the earth.
3. Wild Thing (Peaches Remix) - Ton Loc
Came on in the car as I was driving home last night late from work.
Peaches, Peaches, Peaches. She takes it, and then she goes.
4. Dance Wiv Me - Dizzee Rascal featuring Calvin Harris.
Three people I dislike: Mark Ronson, Guy Ritchie, Calvin Harris. Don’t know why, that’s just the way that it is, I’m sure they’re all really nice people.
Saw this accoustic on the telly coverage for Glastonbury. Dizzee owned it, Calvin bobbed around in the back like someone’s wrong uncle.
This is for all the boyfriends who are too cool to dance.
One day you’ll fucking wake up. I’ll tell you that for nothing.
5. Make It Wit Chu - Queens of the Stone Age
everytime
6. Love Me - Elvis Presley
Those people that treat everyone like shit and people still fall in love with them. Don’t understand it, but it happens. Happened to me, and it happened to people around me, will keep happening.
Elvis turns it around in this, but then he is….
7. Small Hours - John Martyn
Very recently someone i am close to was very seriously ill. And I didn’t know, because they didn’t want me to know. I just found out.
This one is for staying awake all night.
There you go. Heres a muxtape, it’s now my side B. (tapes have two sides see?).
Ahh, my tagees. Apologies, but it seems to be part of the game. All I can say is I have selected you because a) I was interested in what you’d choose, b) I didn’t think you been tagged already, c) I thought I’d be funny. I’ll you decide which. You can ignore it if you want.
I choose atherdiscretion, maddux, resoulution, kasparov, roamin, aliceunderskies and yasusuyasuya.
